For the first workshop there is no practical exercise, so we will spend the tutorial looking at the tools available to us for the next sessions: our cameras (most likely our phones) to make photographs and Adobe Creative Cloud Express as a platform to present them.
Adobe Spark
Start by visiting https://www.adobe.com/express/ and create a free account with your university email. Please explore the platform before the tutorial. We will mostly use Web Pages for our photo exercises.
Your phone's camera
Next, check that your phone has some free memory and a camera app that allows you some manual control over exposure and focus. Most phones come with apps that allow this, but if not there are plenty of free choices.
Exercise for next tutorial:
IMPORTANT: Before you undertake any practical exercise you must fill, sign and return to the course giver the CW1 form you find on Blackboard. Your subjects also need to sign a consent form for each exercise.
The Defining Sequence: Create a short sequence of 7 images centred on a person you know. Decide if you want to use a documentary approach, following them in aspects of their daily life within the confines of your home, or create a series of formal portraits, or take a different approach.
Create a simple Web Page in Adobe CC Express and upload the images there with a brief text. Submit the link on Blackboard 24 hours before next week's tutorial.
